Advanced SEO Tutorial: Step-by-Step Guide
In this blog, you’ll learn how to rank your site on Google, step by step. One more thing, this isn’t a beginner’s guide. If you don’t even know what SEO means, this post isn’t for you. Before we begin, it’s recommended that you read our blog on advanced SEO to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts we’ll be discussing. If you’re ready to learn advanced SEO strategies that deliver tangible results, you’re in the right place.
I’ve personally seen many bloggers use these techniques to increase their organic traffic. So, let’s take a look at this strategy for improving Google rankings, complete with real case studies, data, and examples.
Step 1: Boost Your Site’s Loading Speed
Google has publicly confirmed that site speed is a ranking factor. But here’s the twist:
Google doesn’t reward fast sites.
They penalize slow ones.
If your site loads slower than molasses, yes, Google will push you down. But once you reach a decent speed, you’re on par with most other websites, and speed alone won’t give you a boost.
What to do:
- Use Google PageSpeed Insights to analyze your site (pro tip: test an internal page, not just the homepage).
- Use GTMetrix to see the actual loading speed for real-life users.
Step 2: Fix Technical SEO Issues
Even the best content won’t rank if your site has technical SEO problems.
Steps to check:
- Log in to Google Search Console.
- Pay close attention to Crawl Errors (DNS, robots.txt, server issues).
- Check URL errors. A few 404 errors are acceptable, but if you encounter hundreds, address them ASAP.
Step 3: Smart Keyword Research
Keyword research has changed. Here are 3 advanced methods to find untapped opportunities:
- Google Suggest – Type a keyword, but don’t hit enter. Those autosuggestions? They’re real keywords people search.
- Google Search Console – Check keywords where you already rank in positions 11–15. With some extra optimization, these can jump to page one.
- SEMRush – Instead of guessing, enter a competitor’s site and see which keywords they already rank for.
Step 4: Content Development That Actually Works
Forget the “publish every day” rule. Today, Google only cares about the best result for a keyword, not how often you post.
So what works?
- Make your content crazy actionable (step-by-step, practical tips).
- Write long-form content (at least 1,890 words).
- Use infographics; they get 2.3x more shares.
Step 5: On-Page SEO Optimization
After publishing amazing content, optimize it with these steps:
- Use short URLs that include your target keyword.
- Add your target keyword in the first 100 words.
- Add outbound links to authoritative resources.
Step 6: Link Building (The Real Game Changer)
Publishing content is just the start. To rank, you need links. One of my favorite techniques is Broken Link Building:
- Find a page in your niche with lots of outbound links.
- Use the Check My Links Chrome extension to spot broken ones.
- Reach out to the site owner, let them know, and suggest your content as a replacement.
Step 7: Optimize for User Experience Signals (RankBrain)
Google’s RankBrain algorithm looks at how users interact with your page. Two key signals:
- CTR (Click-Through Rate) – Higher CTR = better rankings.
- Bounce Rate – Pages with bounce rates below 76% tend to rank higher.
So, make your titles irresistible, improve content design, and keep users engaged.
That’s my advanced SEO tutorial in a nutshell.
