What is Promotion?

 

Any type of activity in which we tell people about ourselves or our products and services is called promotion. When we talk about our business in any way with our audience, we are promoting our products or services. We can say that promotion means whatever activity we do to sell our products or services.

Promotion is a part of marketing. There are 4Ps of marketing and promotion is one of them. Promotion is a marketing technique to communicate with customers by which businesses attempt to sell their products and services.


Types of Promotion


Promotion is a set of different activities by which businesses interact with customers and attempt to sell their products and services. So these are the different types of promotions by which businesses promote themselves:

1. Online Promotion: It is an activity which is done to spread information about the product and services through the Internet so that our customers can know about our product and services online. Most Businesses use the internet to promote products and services and raise awareness. 

Usually businesses use different channels to communicate with customers to promote their products and services. This communication is done through various Digital channels like: Social Media, Website, Email, Message, Advertise on google and social media, etc

2. Offline Promotion: It is the activity done by the business to promote its products offline. In this the business goes door to door to promote its products and services. Businesses use offline methods to spread information about their products and services. 

Usually businesses use various offline methods to communicate with customers such as distributing templates, banners, advertisements in newspapers, TV and radio, etc.

Objective of Promotion in Marketing


Promotion is what we do for our products, services or our business which helps us to communicate with our target audience. We do it for our business so that people know about our business and about our products or services. This increases our sales and also builds trust among customers.

  1. Increase sales: Increasing Sales is the main objective of promotion because businesses promote their product or services specifically to increase sales. 
  2. Introduce new product to customer: Whenever you launch a new product, you have to promote it to reach the people so that your product can stand in the market and people can know about the importance and use of your product.
  3. Stay ahead of competitors: your competitor also sells the same products and services as you, then it becomes necessary for you to promote your product and services so that you can make more sales than your competitor and increase awareness.

Conclusion: Promotion is done in two ways, online and offline. Both online and offline have different channels through which businesses promote themselves. Whenever a business needs to increase its awareness or increase sales, it takes the help of promotion.
